THE ROBERTSON SHIELD

Before World War II, from 1927 until 1939, the senior sports champions at what was then Stewarton Higher Grade School in Dunlop Street had :heir names engraved on the Robertson Shield.

This Shield was presented to the school by Charles Robertson who lived in a house at Old Glasgow Road as he was a keen sportsman. Due to the many changes and the new schools that were built in the town over the years, the Robertson Shield, which was once displayed in the old Higher Grade building at the rear of the school, went missing, and for many years nobody seemed to know its whereabouts.

However, it eventually came to light when it was found at the old Lainshaw Primary School building by former Head Teacher, Miss Aileen McKinnon, when asked, agreed to hand over the Shield for display in the Stewarton Museum, in the Town Chambers in Avenue Square.
