Damage to the side of the carriage was caused by it colliding with a tamper machine on the up line.

During the re-railing, one of the
other coaches "ran away". Desperate attempts were made to halt the coach,
scotches, ballast etc all to no avail, the coach disappeared from sight
heading for Kilmarnock. It later derailed at a set of catch points before
reaching Kilmarnock. "The Runaway Train came over the hill" |
