LANDSCAPE: A TOWN IN THE RAIN

Taken from the 1973 Bonnet Guild Festival Guide

The rain silvers slowly silver

the slatey roovs of the shadow grey street.

It falls and runs in shining fury

through the singing-guttered town.

Seagulls circle wheeling damply

as grey sky-tides around them shiver.

The town glows slivered, cellophane-grey

Slow, singing streets In the sky song ring

And the booming hills round thunder banging

look down frowning on the drowning town

As the serpent cables southwards shaking

Borne aloft on striding steel

Over the clustered, green-mopi drip-drop tree-tops

the steet cuts sharply upwards welded

to the stirring, molten metal sky.

It flows gently, rain. song sweet

This Landscaped townscape all around

and lies gently jewelled in ringing shadow

This slatey, cellophaned, singing town.
