Resplendent in a snow white cap
Davie Hay is standing there
The bunnet's no tae warm his heid
It's tae hide his lack o' hair.
Big Spittal (Jimmy) famed for rugs & stugs
His opponents think it's tragic
But no Big Jim, he can't agree
The big sod says "It's magic".
For Goad's sake Bowie (Norrie) get them up
I hear coming fae rink 3
But though the wee man tries like mad
I'm afraid it's no tae be.
He plays them wide, he plays them tight
In fact a often wunner
Will he ever make a booler
If he leeves tae be a hunner.
Wha's that in the beeny hat
Wi' tartan shirt & trews
Och! a see when he gets nearer
It's only Johnie Hughes.
Big Daw (Hamilton) and Hughie (Steele)
Noo there's a pair
On the Green they dinnae lag
But they're better at the dominoes
Or maybe it's nine card brag.
That Gilmour Smith's late again
He's tae play wee Tommy Morgan
Gilmour's either missed the bus
Or he's playing on his organ.
That's him noo, wi' pipe in jaw
Never was one tae hurry
He's been rehearsing the Dunlop Kirk choir
Wi' the Rev Jimmie Currie.
Yae skip let oot an awfa roar
His wayward third tae rally
The folk gin by think - "It's a bull!
But it's no a bull. It's Cally (Fulton).
The gemmes are finished, bools put by
Signs of gloaming blinking
But joyous sounds from within these walls
The sound of glasses clinking.
Big Wattie (Jarvie) stins ahint the bar
At pu'ing pints he's dandy
And though he isnae awfa braw
By Goad he's awfa handy.
I've had ma bools, I've had ma dram
The dram has made me bolder
But damn fine a ken, am gaen hame
Tae hot tongue or cold shoulder. |
