About us?

The Society was formed almost 30 years ago by a group of residents from Stewarton & Dunlop who wanted to preserve the history of the district .

From this stemmed the idea of having a local museum, which is housed in the council chambers in Avenue Square (1st floor). Public opening times are displayed in the local library or alternatively by appointment by calling 01560 482342 or 01563 524748.

We are also a registered Scottish charity, No 011194

What we do?

We hold monthly meetings throughout the winter with speakers on Scottish or local history topics, In addition to this we also organise visits to historic houses twice a year, one winter and one in summer.

In our museum we have collected pictures, artefacts and recollections of Stewartons past and we try, were possible to assist people trying to trace their family history through our collection of historical records.

As part of our responsibility to the historical heritage of the district, we also monitor planning applications which might affect older buildings
